Sonequa Martin-Green

Sonequa Martin-Green is an actress and producer recognized for her lead role as Michael Burnham, lieutenant commander of the USS Discovery, in the science fiction television series "Star Trek: Discovery." This role marked a milestone as the first Black female Starfleet captain in the franchise. Martin-Green is also known for her portrayal of Sasha Williams on AMC's award-winning series "The Walking Dead." Her television credits include recurring roles on CBS drama The Good Wife, ABC's "Once Upon a Time," and FOX's "New Girl." She has appeared in guest roles on shows such as "Law and Order: Criminal Intent," "Army Wives," and "Gossip Girl."

Martin-Green stars opposite Ed Harris in the dark comedy film "My Dead Friend Zoe," where she also served as executive producer. Her film work includes "Space Jam: A New Legacy" with LeBron James and Don Cheadle, and "Outside Story," a Brooklyn-based independent comedy-drama with Brian Tyree Henry. She played a leading role in Emily Abt's Sundance film "Toe To Toe" and appeared in Victoria Mahoney's "Yelling to the Sky" with Gabourey Sidibe and Zoe Kravitz.

On stage, Martin-Green has performed in Des McAnuff’s "Fetch Clay Make Man," portraying Muhammad Ali's first wife, and starred in Off-Broadway’s "Outside People" at the Vineyard Theatre in New York City.

Martin-Green is a graduate of the University of Alabama and has served as an ambassador for Stand Up to Cancer.
