So Taguchi

So Taguchi is a Japanese former professional baseball outfielder whose career spanned two continents and more than two decades. After being drafted by Orix BlueWave of Nippon Professional Baseball, Taguchi spent a decade in Japan, earning an All-Star selection, a Gold Glove Award, and contributing to Orix's Japan Series championship. During his tenure with the BlueWave, he played alongside Ichiro Suzuki.

Taguchi made his Major League Baseball debut with the St. Louis Cardinals, becoming the first native Japanese-born player to appear in a Cardinals uniform. Over six seasons in St. Louis, he established himself as a reliable and versatile outfielder, posting a .279 batting average and delivering key postseason performances, including a game-winning home run in the National League Championship Series. Taguchi contributed to the Cardinals' World Series championship, going 6-for-15 with two home runs and four RBI during the playoffs. He also led all major league players in pinch-hit average during one of his seasons with the Cardinals.

Taguchi later joined the Philadelphia Phillies, where he earned another World Series ring, becoming the first Japanese player to win two World Series titles with two different teams. He is recognized as the third Japanese-born player to win a World Series. After a stint with the Chicago Cubs, Taguchi returned to Japan for two final seasons with Orix Buffaloes before retiring.

Following his playing career, Taguchi became a baseball commentator for NHK, covering Major League Baseball games. He later joined the Orix Buffaloes coaching staff, serving for nearly a decade and contributing to another Japan Series championship with the organization. Throughout his career, Taguchi earned two World Series championships and two Japan Series championships, reflecting his impact on professional baseball in both Japan and the United States.
