Snoh Aalegra

Snoh Aalegra is a Swedish-Iranian singer-songwriter known for her emotive voice and cinematic approach to R&B, establishing her as a prominent figure in contemporary soul music. Her sound draws inspiration from artists such as Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Michael Jackson, while maintaining a distinct authenticity and emotional depth.

Aalegra began writing music at age nine and signed an artist development deal with Sony Music Sweden at 13, though she parted ways with the label without releasing music. She initially launched her career under the mononym Sheri, releasing the single "U Got Me Good," which reached number 2 on the Swedish Single Charts.

After relocating to Los Angeles, Aalegra signed with No I.D.'s ARTium Recordings. She adopted the stage name Snoh Aalegra, appearing on Common's album "Nobody's Smiling" on the song "Hustle Harder." She chose "Aalegra" for its meaning, "joyful" in Italian, and modified the spelling to make it unique. During this period, Prince discovered her music and mentored her until his death. She released her first single as Snoh Aalegra, "Emotional," produced by RZA, and featured on Vince Staples' album "Summertime '06" on the tracks "Jump Off the Roof" and "Señorita."

Aalegra released her debut album, "Feels," featuring collaborations with Vince Staples, Vic Mensa, Logic, and Timbuktu. She describes her style as "cinematic soul," blending elements of soul and R&B. Her single "Time" was sampled by Drake on the track "Do Not Disturb" from his mixtape "More Life." Her follow-up album, "Ugh, Those Feels Again," debuted as the number 1 R&B album on iTunes and received critical acclaim from NPR, Pitchfork, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Elle. The album peaked at number 3 on the Billboard R&B Album Sales chart, number 6 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart, and number 73 on the Billboard 200.

Aalegra signed a recording contract with Roc Nation/Universal Music Group in partnership with ARTium Records and released her third album, "Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies," under ARTium Records and Roc Nation. The album earned her nominations at the Grammy Awards for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance for the song "Lost You." Throughout her career, Aalegra has collaborated with artists and producers including Drake, Common, John Mayer, Vince Staples, James Fauntleroy, Boi-1da, DJ Dahi, and RZA. Her music often reflects her personal experiences and challenges, resonating with audiences worldwide and contributing to her influence in the R&B and soul music landscape.
