Shyam Bishen

Dr. Shyam Bishen is a global health leader serving as the head of the Centre for Health and Healthcare at the World Economic Forum. With more than 25 years of experience in public-private partnerships, strategy development, and healthcare innovation, Bishen has contributed to shaping international health agendas and advancing equitable healthcare solutions. At the World Economic Forum, Bishen collaborates with leaders and stakeholders to address issues such as pandemic preparedness, the impact of climate change on health, and access to care, focusing on convening diverse perspectives and driving systemic change.

Before joining the World Economic Forum, Bishen held senior leadership positions at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, where he led teams delivering vaccines, drugs, and diagnostics to underserved populations, and at Merck, where he was responsible for emerging markets strategy and innovation. His career also includes academic appointments and board memberships with organizations dedicated to healthcare innovation and women's health. Bishen holds a Ph.D. from the University of Newcastle and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, with executive training at Harvard.

Bishen has received honors such as the Gustav Nylin Medal from the Swedish Royal College of Medicine and the Distinguished Scientist Award from the American Heart Association. He is the founder and chairman of the Global Girls Scholarship Foundation, supporting educational opportunities for underprivileged girls. Bishen is recognized as a public speaker in global health, healthcare strategy, and public-private partnerships.
