Shep Gordon

Shep Gordon is a talent manager, Hollywood film agent, and producer whose career spans the music, film, and culinary industries. Gordon's entry into entertainment began with a chance encounter that shaped his professional trajectory. Introduced to the band Alice Cooper by Jimi Hendrix, Gordon and his partner Joe Greenberg began managing the group, launching a decades-long career in artist management. Gordon went on to manage the careers of Alice Cooper, Groucho Marx, Raquel Welch, Luther Vandross, Kenny Loggins, and others. He has been recognized as one of the 100 most influential people in Rolling Stone magazine.

Gordon expanded his influence beyond music management into film production. His first film as a producer, "The Duellists," won at the Cannes Film Festival. He established Alive Films, one of the first independent film production companies in the United States, which produced "Roadie" starring Meat Loaf. In partnership with Island Records, Alive formed Island Alive, which produced and distributed films including "Koyaanisqatsi," "Kiss of the Spider Woman," "Stop Making Sense," and "Choose Me." Gordon also served as executive producer on Wes Craven's "Shocker" and "The People Under the Stairs," as well as John Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness" and "Village of the Damned." His ability to navigate the music, film, and culinary industries has distinguished him as a unique figure in American entertainment.

Gordon played a significant role in shaping the modern culinary industry by pioneering the concept of the celebrity chef. He transitioned his management expertise to the culinary world, founding Alive Culinary Resources, the first talent agency dedicated to representing chefs. This agency helped elevate chefs' profiles, with clients such as Emeril Lagasse and Wolfgang Puck securing book deals, television appearances, and product endorsements. Gordon contributed to the development of Food Network, helping to bring culinary arts to a broad television audience. He also collaborated with Emeril Lagasse to create Emeril Spices, opened Humble Market Kitchen in Hawaii with Roy Yamaguchi, and launched Maui Tacos with Mark Ellman.

Gordon's life and career have been chronicled in both documentary and literary formats. "Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon" is a documentary film about Gordon, produced and directed by Mike Myers. The film was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and received the audience award for best documentary at the Sarasota Film Festival. Gordon's memoir, "They Call Me Supermensch: A Backstage Pass to the Amazing Worlds of Film, Food, and Rock 'n' Roll," was published through Anthony Bourdain's HarperCollins imprint and debuted on the New York Times Best Seller List. His contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the University at Buffalo Distinguished Alumni Award and induction into the National Conference of Personal Managers Hall of Fame.

Beyond his professional work, Gordon is committed to philanthropy and public service. He produces an annual benefit dinner in Maui and has provided over 1 million meals for those in need. Gordon serves on the boards of The Maui Arts and Cultural Center, Reel FX, and the Tibet Fund, and is a trustee of The Culinary Institute of America. He has presented the baccalaureate address at The Culinary Institute of America and has appeared as a featured speaker at Summit at Sea and the 92nd Street Y in New York, where he has discussed strategies for cultivating fame and building lasting careers.
