Shane Battier

Over a distinguished NBA and collegiate career, Shane Battier established himself as a scholar-athlete, All-American, leader and philanthropist. Dubbed the "No-Stats All-Star" by Michael Lewis in a New York Times Sunday magazine cover story, Battier is regarded as one of the most successful, albeit atypical, basketball players in history for using his leadership, lockdown defense and intellect to win championships at every level.

After graduating with honors from Duke University with two Final Four appearances, one national championship, two All-American awards, and Naismith and John Wooden National Player of the Year awards, the Memphis Grizzlies selected Battier in the 2001 NBA draft. He ultimately led the Grizzlies to their first-ever playoff appearance during the 2003-04 season. A few years later, Battier helped lead the Houston Rockets to its first semifinal playoff appearance in more than a decade during the 2009 postseason. He briefly returned to Memphis before joining the Miami Heat in 2011 as one of the NBA's most coveted free agents. Battier went on to be part of the back-to-back 2012 and 2013 NBA championship Miami Heat team and a USA Basketball Men's Senior national team member.

He and his wife, Heidi, launched The Battier Take Charge Foundation to provide resources and programs for the development and education of underserved youth and teens.
