Shamiel Gary

Shamiel Gary is a former NFL safety known for his perseverance throughout his football career. Gary began his collegiate football journey at Wyoming, where he earned Freshman All-American honors before transferring to Oklahoma State University and redshirting for one season. As a true freshman, he started 12 of 13 games at strong safety, tying for the team lead in interceptions with three and ranking fifth in tackles with 98. After his sophomore season, Gary transferred to Oklahoma State to be closer to his family during his grandmother's battle with Alzheimer's disease.

During his first season with the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Gary started every game, recording 72 tackles, six passes defended, three interceptions, and one forced fumble. In his senior year, he contributed 47 tackles, nine passes defended, and three interceptions, helping the Cowboys achieve a 10-3 record and a second-place finish in the Big 12 Conference.

After college, Gary entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent, signing with the New England Patriots. He later joined the Chicago Bears on a one-year contract, followed by stints with the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, where he moved between practice squads and active rosters. Throughout his NFL tenure, Gary navigated the challenges of life as a fringe roster player, adapting to multiple teams and demonstrating resilience.

Off the field, Gary faced significant personal challenges, including a shoulder injury during the NFL preseason with the Miami Dolphins and his mother's battle with cancer. These experiences influenced his post-football mission, shaping his message of perseverance and faith.

As an entrepreneur and author, Gary has delivered presentations to more than 150,000 individuals across 30 states. He is the author of several books, including the children's book "Life of Lahray," which reflects his commitment to inspiring younger audiences. Drawing from his NFL experiences, Gary shares insights on leadership, teamwork, and organizational culture with audiences at conferences, schools, businesses, and athletic programs. His mission centers on inspiring individuals from all backgrounds to overcome adversity and empower others.
