Sergiño Dest

Sergiño Dest is recognized as a dynamic fullback in American soccer. Born in Almere, Netherlands, to a Surinamese-American father and a Dutch mother, Dest holds dual U.S.-Dutch citizenship. He began his soccer development in the youth academy of Almere City before joining the Ajax academy in Amsterdam. After progressing through Ajax's youth system and reserves, Dest reached the first team and made his Eredivisie debut, earning the club's Talent of the Future Award. He committed his international career to the United States, influenced by his father, who was born in New Jersey and served in the U.S. military.

Dest's transfer to FC Barcelona marked a significant milestone for American soccer. After joining the La Liga club, Dest became the first American to play in a competitive match for Barcelona, the first to appear in a UEFA Champions League match for the club, and the first to play in El Clásico against Real Madrid. He also became the first American to score for Barcelona. During his tenure, Dest demonstrated versatility, playing both right and left back, as well as winger roles in various formations.

Following his time at Barcelona, Dest expanded his European experience with a loan to AC Milan, contributing to the club's run to the UEFA Champions League semifinals. He later joined PSV Eindhoven on loan, helping the club secure the Eredivisie title before completing a permanent move. Dest went on to win multiple Eredivisie titles and Johan Cruyff Shield honors with PSV.
