Selah

Selah is a Nashville-based contemporary Christian vocal trio known for its harmonies and spiritual artistry within the Christian music industry. The group was originally formed by siblings Todd Smith and Nicol Smith, along with Allan Hall. Selah became a priority at Curb Records early in its career. The group is recognized for transforming traditional Christian hymns into a modern style, blending powerful vocals with contemporary arrangements.

Todd and Nicol Smith, who spent their childhood in Sub-Saharan Africa, introduced African musical elements to Selah's repertoire, performing in both Kituba and English. Their debut album, "Be Still My Soul," achieved critical and commercial success, earning a Dove Award. The follow-up album, "Press On," also won a Dove Award and received multiple nominations for individual songs. Selah continued to release albums in the early 2000s, featuring original compositions and covers such as "You Raise Me Up" and "Bless the Broken Road."

Television appearances on programs including "The 700 Club," "The Hour of Power," and LeSea Broadcasting's "Live from Studio B" expanded their reach, while albums like "Rose of Bethlehem" and "Hiding Place" attracted a younger audience through the Adult Contemporary charts. The group has also performed at Carnegie Hall, highlighting its appeal beyond the Christian music community.

After Nicol Smith left to pursue a solo career, Melodie Crittenden joined Selah for a period. The "Bless the Broken Road" album featured Allan Hall and Todd Smith collaborating with various guest singers. Following auditions of 15 vocalists, Amy Perry became a full-time member, and Hall took on a more active singing role in addition to his work as accompanist. The current lineup of Todd Smith, Allan Hall, and Amy Perry continues to build on Selah's legacy in gospel and contemporary Christian music.

Selah released "You Amaze Us," with the title track debuting at No. 1 on Billboard's Christian Soft AC chart and remaining at the top for 12 weeks. Todd Smith and his family have drawn on their faith following the loss of his daughter, Audrey, an experience that has influenced the authenticity and vulnerability in Selah's music.

The group has sold more than 4 million records, including two Gold Albums, won 11 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, and accumulated over 900 million streams across digital music platforms. Selah marked its 25th anniversary with the Christmas album "At This Table" and the hymns project "Greatest Hymns, Vol. 3." The album "Higher Name" features original songs written, co-written, or performed as spoken word by the group members. With a catalog spanning decades, Selah remains a defining voice in contemporary Christian and gospel music.
