Sela Ward

Sela Ward is a television and film actress known for her dramatic roles and award-winning performances. After graduating from the University of Alabama, Ward began her career in New York as a model before transitioning to acting. She appeared in numerous television commercials before moving to Los Angeles, where she secured her first television role on the series "Emerald Point, N.A.S." Ward continued to build her career with supporting roles in films during the 1980s, including a notable appearance opposite Tom Hanks in "Nothing in Common."

Ward's breakthrough came with her portrayal of Teddy Reed in the NBC drama series "Sisters," earning her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She received a CableACE Award for her performance as Jessica Savitch in the Lifetime film "Almost Golden: The Jessica Savitch Story." Ward later won a second Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Series Drama for her role as Lily Manning in the ABC drama series "Once and Again."

Ward is recognized for her roles in several television series, including Stacy Warner on "House," Jo Danville on "CSI: NY," and Dana Mosier on "FBI." Her film credits include "The Fugitive," "My Fellow Americans," "The Day After Tomorrow," "The Guardian," "The Stepfather," "Gone Girl," and "Independence Day: Resurgence," where she portrayed the President of the United States. Ward also developed and produced the documentary "The Changing Face of Beauty," which explores America's focus on youth and its impact on women in the entertainment industry.

Ward is the author of the autobiography "Homesick: A Memoir." Inspired by meeting foster children in Mississippi, she founded Hope Village for Children, a group home and emergency shelter in Meridian. The facility, located on a 30-acre property, has a capacity of 44 residents and serves hundreds of children annually. Ward has been recognized by the Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Center's Walk of Fame, and a section of 22nd Avenue in Meridian is named "Sela Ward Parkway" in her honor. Her career encompasses acting, advocacy, and work in the entertainment industry, making her a prominent figure in television and film.
