Sean Landeta

Sean Landeta is a legendary American football punter whose professional career spanned over two decades across the NFL and USFL. A standout at Towson University, he made history as the only player in Division II to lead in both punting and placekicking in a single season. His college achievements earned him induction into several halls of fame, including Towson’s and the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame.

Landeta began his professional journey with the USFL’s Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars, where he won two championships before moving to the NFL. He joined the New York Giants and played a pivotal role in their success, helping the team win two Super Bowls (XXI and XXV). Over the course of his NFL career, he also played for the Rams, Buccaneers, Packers, and Eagles.

Known for his consistency and excellence, Landeta was named to both the 1980s and 1990s NFL All-Decade Teams. He was a two-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro, setting multiple career punting records, including most career punts, punting yards, and punts inside the 20-yard line. He retired as one of the oldest punters in league history, having averaged 43.3 yards per punt throughout his career.

Off the field, Landeta is recognized for his leadership, professionalism, and community involvement. He continues to be active in charitable work and regularly appears at alumni and sports events, supporting causes such as youth development, cancer research, and autism awareness.
