Scott Kahan, MD, MPH

Scott Kahan, MD, MPH, is the Director of the National Center for Weight and Wellness and an internationally recognized leader in preventive medicine and obesity care. Trained in both clinical medicine and public health, he holds degrees from Columbia University, the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he also completed his residency and served as Chief Resident. He is board certified in Preventive Medicine, Obesity Medicine, and Clinical Nutrition.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Kahan is a leading voice in obesity and nutrition policy. He has directed the Strategies to Overcome and Prevent Obesity Alliance and serves in leadership roles with organizations including The Obesity Society, the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and the American Diabetes Association. He has advised the White House, federal agencies, and members of Congress on public health strategy, and has contributed to major clinical guidelines, including the ADA Standards of Care.

A longtime educator and author, Dr. Kahan has held faculty roles at institutions such as Johns Hopkins University and George Washington University, where he developed pioneering courses on obesity and nutrition. He has published more than 100 scientific works, served as a peer reviewer for leading journals and the National Institutes of Health, and is a frequent media contributor. His work has earned numerous honors, including Clinician of the Year from The Obesity Society and multiple national recognition awards for his impact on patient care and public health.
