Sawyer Brown

Sawyer Brown is a country music band recognized for its longevity and dynamic live performances. Founded by Mark Miller (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Gregg Hubbard (keyboards, vocals), Bobby Randall (lead guitar, vocals), Joe Smyth (drums), and Jim Scholten (bass guitar), the group originally formed after working together as members of Don King's road band. Following King's retirement, the musicians decided to continue as a band, initially adopting the name Savanna before changing it to Sawyer Brown, inspired by a local road near their rehearsal space.

Sawyer Brown built its reputation in the Nashville club circuit, performing multiple sets nightly. The band gained national attention after winning the inaugural Star Search competition, which led to a surge in popularity. Although they received offers from Los Angeles, including the possibility of a television show, the group chose to return to Nashville and focus on their music career.

The band's first No. 1 hit, "Step That Step," remained on the Billboard country charts for 21 weeks and earned Sawyer Brown the Country Music Association's Horizon Award. Initially known for a country pop sound with novelty tunes, the band later incorporated more serious ballads into its repertoire. After moving to Curb Records, Sawyer Brown released albums such as "The Dirt Road," "Café on the Corner," and "Outskirts of Town," achieving multiple hits. Collaborations with singer-songwriter Mac McAnally contributed to their success during this period.

Sawyer Brown has released 18 studio albums and charted more than 50 times on the Hot Country Songs charts, including three No. 1 singles: "Step That Step," "Some Girls Do," and "Thank God for You." Three albums—"The Dirt Road," "Outskirts of Town," and "Greatest Hits 1990-1995"—have been certified gold by the RIAA. The band has received several industry honors, including the Country Music Association's Horizon Award, the Academy of Country Music's Vocal Group of the Year award, and five Vocal Band of the Year Awards from the TNN/Music City News Country Awards.

Often referred to as "the Rolling Stones of Country Music," Sawyer Brown is known for its extensive touring schedule, performing hundreds of shows annually and reaching milestones such as their 3,000th concert. Mark Miller, the band's frontman, has also produced every Casting Crowns album, including a Grammy Award winner. Miller authored the memoir "The Boys And Me: My Life In The Country Music Supergroup Sawyer Brown," offering insights into the band's journey in the country music industry.

The documentary "Get Me To The Stage On Time," directed by Madison Miller and produced by Blake Shelton, chronicles Sawyer Brown's career from their Star Search origins to collaborations with artists like Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. The film is available on streaming platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, and Google Play. With a new studio album and continued touring, Sawyer Brown maintains a significant presence in country music, appealing to both longtime fans and new audiences.
