Sasha Stiles

Sasha Stiles is a first-generation Kalmyk-American poet, language artist, and AI researcher recognized for her contributions to generative literature and blockchain poetics. Her work explores heritage and tradition through innovative approaches to imagination and consciousness, integrating text, media art, and digital humanities to position poetry as both an ancient art form and a contemporary technology for encoding human experience.

A graduate of Harvard University magna cum laude and the University of Oxford with high honors, Stiles applies academic rigor to her creative practice. She is known for "Technelegy," which serves as both the title of her book and the name of her poetic and performative alter ego—a collaboration with a custom-enhanced AI. Published by Black Spring Press, the collection merges AI-generated content, produced by processing Stiles's poetry with GPT-2 and GPT-3, with her own traditionally created work. "Technelegy" has been recognized as a significant exploration of posthumanism and algorithmic authorship.

Stiles became the first writer to present AI-powered literature at a major auction house when her poem "COMPLETION: When it's just you" was sold at Christie's. The Museum of Modern Art presented "Sasha Stiles: A LIVING POEM," a digital installation featuring an ongoing dialogue between Stiles and her AI alter ego, Technelegy. This installation, part of MoMA's partnership with Hyundai Card, was also displayed in Seoul. Stiles was invited to create the official poster for Art Basel, highlighting generative poetry at the international art fair.

Her work has received recognition from the Prix Ars Electronica, Sigg Art Prize, Lumen Prize, and Future.Art.Awards, and has been showcased by MoMA, Artforum, Christie's, NPR, the Washington Post, and Poets & Writers. Stiles's work has been exhibited and performed at venues including Lincoln Center, the V&A, Art Basel, Art Dubai, Kunsthalle Zurich, Outernet London, and Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo. She has received nominations for the Forward Prize, Pushcart Prize, and Best of the Net, and has been a finalist for the Christopher Smart Prize and Palette Emerging Poet Prize. Stiles has delivered talks at events and institutions such as Art Basel, the Brooklyn Museum, SXSW, Parsons The New School, NFT NYC, and NFT London.

Stiles is co-founder of theVERSEverse, a crypto literary collective focused on expanding the understanding of poetry as art. As poetry mentor to BINA48, she contributes to the literary development of one of the world's most advanced humanoid AI robots. Her projects, including "Technelegy" and "Cursive Binary," examine artificial intelligence as a linguistic technology and reinforce the role of language in contemporary art. Through her multidisciplinary practice, Stiles is recognized for her work at the intersection of poetry, technology, and human creativity.
