Sachin & Binny Bansal

Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal are Indian entrepreneurs best known as the co-founders of Flipkart, one of India’s most influential e-commerce platforms. Their partnership helped transform online retail in India and inspired a generation of startup founders across the country.

Both Sachin and Binny Bansal studied computer science at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where they developed the technical foundation that would later support their entrepreneurial ambitions. Early in their careers, they worked at Amazon, gaining firsthand experience in global e-commerce operations.

In 2007, they launched Flipkart as an online bookstore operating out of a small apartment in Bengaluru. With a strong focus on customer experience—introducing innovations like cash-on-delivery and easy returns—they rapidly expanded into a wide range of product categories. Under their leadership, Flipkart grew into one of India’s largest online marketplaces, competing with global giants and reshaping consumer behavior.

In 2018, Flipkart was acquired by Walmart in a landmark deal valued at $16 billion, one of the largest e-commerce acquisitions in history. Following the acquisition, Binny Bansal served briefly as CEO before stepping down later that year, while Sachin Bansal had already exited the company to pursue new ventures.

After Flipkart, Sachin Bansal founded Navi Technologies, focusing on financial services and digital lending. Binny Bansal has invested in and advised multiple startups, and later launched ventures in the technology and mobility space, continuing to play an active role in India’s startup ecosystem.

Together, Sachin and Binny Bansal are widely regarded as pioneers of India’s digital commerce revolution, whose vision and execution helped lay the foundation for the country’s modern startup landscape.
