Rostam Biography
Rostam Batmanglij, known professionally as Rostam, is a musician, songwriter, producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. A founding member of Vampire Weekend, he helped define the band’s eclectic sound as a songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist before leaving the group in 2016 to pursue a solo career and extensive work with other artists.
As a producer and songwriter, Rostam has collaborated with artists including Frank Ocean, HAIM, Clairo, Charli XCX, Solange, Carly Rae Jepsen, Maggie Rogers, and Lykke Li. His own solo albums—Half-Light (2017), Changephobia (2021), and American Stories (2026)—blend indie rock, pop, electronic music, Americana, and Persian musical influences, often exploring identity, belonging, and cultural heritage.
Rostam has also composed for film and television, including Netflix’s "The OA" and the film "The Persian Version." Across his work, he is known for inventive production, sophisticated arrangements, and a willingness to connect seemingly disparate musical traditions.
