Ronald W. Zweig

Ronald W. Zweig is an Australian-Israeli historian specializing in Hebrew and Judaic studies, with a particular focus on the British Mandate in Palestine. He served as the Director at the Taub Center for Israel Studies at New York University (NYU) from 2004-2023.

Zweig earned his Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Sydney and completed his PhD in modern history at the University of Cambridge. Following his doctoral studies, Zweig was a junior fellow at the University of Oxford's Center for Hebrew Studies. He then joined the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and, in 1983, moved to the Department of Jewish History at Tel Aviv University, where he served as Chair from 2003 to 2004.

Zweig has authored several notable works, including: "The Gold Train: The Destruction of the Jews and the Looting of Hungary," which examines the Nazi-operated "Hungarian Gold Train" that transported valuables stolen from Hungarian Jews during World War II; "German Reparations and the Jewish World: A History of the Claims Conference," detailing the post-World War II reparations process; and "Britain and Palestine during the Second World War," exploring the complex relationship between Britain and Palestine during the war.

Throughout his career, Zweig has been involved with various academic and advisory boards, including the Historical Advisory Panel to the National Archives in Washington, D.C., and editorial roles with journals such as the Journal of Israeli History, Jewish Social Studies, and "Israel Studies*.
