Rocío Medina van Nierop

Rocío Medina van Nierop is a technology executive and nonprofit leader with a focus on diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. After working in technology for 15 years, Medina van Nierop transitioned from her corporate career to dedicate her efforts to Latinas in Tech. Prior to this, she held roles at Prezi, including director of product marketing and director of market development, where she led product launches, marketing campaigns, and managed profit and loss responsibilities for Latin America, Spain, and Portugal. Earlier in her career, she worked at BetClic Everest Group as a global marketing manager.

Medina van Nierop co-founded Latinas in Tech with Gretel Perera, starting as a small group of Latina professionals seeking community. The organization has since grown to include more than 33,000 women working at over 1,000 companies, including major technology firms across multiple countries. Latinas in Tech is a nonprofit organization with a mission to connect, support, and empower Latina women in technology and a vision to achieve fair representation in leadership roles. The organization has built an ecosystem that includes data scientists, engineers, cybersecurity experts, and journalists, fostering a collaborative community for learning, mentorship, and recruitment.

Medina van Nierop’s advocacy extends to working with lawmakers at city, state, and federal levels to influence policy beyond the tech sector. She highlights the economic impact of Latinos, who represent $3.2 trillion of the American economy, and addresses disparities in tech leadership, noting that Latinx professionals hold only 3 percent of leadership roles and that seven of every 10 Latinas in tech leave the industry earlier than their non-Latinx peers.

Medina van Nierop has spoken about overcoming personal challenges, including self-doubt as a non-native English speaker and someone who did not attend a U.S. university, leveraging her cultural heritage to persist in the technology sector. She has participated in an executive education program at Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Her work has been recognized by Latino Leaders Magazine and the Association of Latino Professionals For America.

As a keynote speaker, Medina van Nierop addresses topics such as business growth, diversity and inclusion, empowerment, Hispanic heritage, resilience, technology, and women in business. Through her work building community, influencing policy, and amplifying underrepresented voices, Medina van Nierop is recognized as a leader at the intersection of technology, diversity, and economic empowerment.
