Ricky Choi

Ricky Y. Choi, MD, MPH, is a physician-executive and digital health innovator who serves as head of digital health at Samsung Electronics America. In this role, Choi leads strategy and business teams focused on leveraging consumer technology to improve clinical and financial outcomes in healthcare. Initially based at Samsung's headquarters in South Korea and now in the Bay Area, Choi was among the first American physicians to join Samsung Electronics' global headquarters. He has held multiple leadership positions within Samsung, including deputy senior director, head of digital health, and global medical director.

Choi is a clinical assistant professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine in the Division of General Pediatrics, where he attends on the newborn nursery service and in outpatient clinic, and leads digital health initiatives for the division. With nearly 20 years of clinical practice experience, his medical background spans pediatrics, public health, and health advocacy. Prior to joining Samsung, Choi practiced medicine at Kaiser Permanente as a physician in pediatrics, focusing on urgent care, well baby nursery, and hospitalist services. At Asian Health Services, he served as department head of pediatrics, providing leadership on child health and pediatric clinical care in an urban underserved setting. As co-founder of Healthbegins, he helped clinicians address upstream conditions that impact health.

At Samsung, Choi has contributed to the company's evolution from a consumer electronics brand into a connected healthcare platform. Samsung Health has expanded beyond wellness tracking to deliver integrated virtual care, prescription and health records management, and clinical data integration through the acquisition of Xealth. Choi also serves as strategic medical advisor for Xealth, which functions as a care orchestration platform, embedding digital programs, patient education, remote monitoring, and clinical workflows directly into an EHR. Samsung Electronics and b.well Connected Health have expanded their collaboration to enable smartphone-enabled digital access to health records, allowing Samsung Galaxy users to access and share their longitudinal health history with participating providers via QR code.

Choi is active at the intersection of medicine and technology, regularly appearing at major health and innovation forums such as Becker's Annual Meeting, CES, HLTH, and the Milken Institute Asia Summit. He serves as vice chair of the Consumer Technology Association Health Division Board, contributing to policy advocacy and industry promotion within the consumer technology sector. Choi has held national physician leadership roles, including serving on the board of directors for the National Physicians Alliance and as the inaugural chair of the Immigrant Child Health Group for the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Choi holds degrees from The University of Chicago, Medical University of South Carolina, and Harvard University, and completed his internship and pediatric residency training at the University of California, San Francisco. He is a past fellow of the California HealthCare Foundation Health Care Leadership Program and has held appointments to advisory councils of the California State Health and Human Services Agency in areas such as multicultural health, care for children with special health care needs, and pediatric health care quality. His experience in clinical medicine, public health, and digital health innovation positions him as a leading voice on the future of connected care.
