Richard Lyons has a long and varied history within the world of academia. He first joined the University of California, Berkeley business faculty in 1993, where he would go on to become the dean of the Haas School of Business from 2008 to 2018. Prior to his tenure at UC Berkeley, Lyons spent six years teaching at Columbia University.
Lyons' expertise is not exclusive to academia. He ventured into the corporate world from 2006 to 2008, serving as the chief learning officer at Goldman Sachs in New York City. Upon his return to UC Berkeley, he took on the role of chief innovation and entrepreneurship officer from 2020 to 2024, helping to bridge academia and industry.
Currently, Lyons is serving as the 12th chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley. He began his term in July 2024, bringing his wealth of experience in both education and business to the position. This unique blend of experiences and knowledge makes Lyons a figure of note in both academic and corporate circles.
