Rich Ruohonen Biography
Rich Ruohonen started curling in the fifth grade, when he started playing Saturday mornings at the St. Paul Curling Club.
Ruohonen has represented the United States in men’s curling at two world championships (2008, 2018). As skip he led Team USA to the playoffs at the 2018 World Curling Championships, held in Las Vegas where Team USA ended up finishing in sixth place.
Ruohonen has won back-to-back medals at the senior world championships in men’s curling (2024 silver, 2025 bronze) as the third for the U.S. Since he began curling in 1981, he has taken only one curling season off from the sport while studying law at Hamline Law School and recovering from a serious knee injury. With his participation in the 2026 Olympics in Milan, he made history as the oldest winter Olympian.
Off the ice, Ruohonen enjoys fishing, water sports, and playing competitive softball in the summer. In addition to curling, he is a partner at a law firm in Minnesota that specializes in representing victims of personal injury accidents with a speciality in car accidents and traumatic brain injuries.
