Reid Sawyer

Reid Sawyer is a managing director and head of the Emerging Risks Group at Marsh, a global insurance broker and risk advisor. With more than two decades of military service and expertise in strategic risk management, Sawyer is recognized for his work at the intersection of cyber, geopolitical, and emerging strategic risks. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a Master of Public Administration from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs.

Sawyer developed his expertise during a career in the U.S. Army, serving in Special Operations Forces with deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Africa, and Latin America. He founded and served as executive director of the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point, leading national counterterrorism policy reviews and testifying before a bicameral Congressional committee. Sawyer also served as a senior faculty member at West Point and, during an FBI fellowship, authored the Bureau's public-private partnership strategy focused on cyber and organizational resiliency. He led the first summit on intellectual property theft through cyber means and was recognized by the FBI's assistant director for his contributions.

After his military service, Sawyer joined JLT Specialty USA as senior vice president, leading the Emerging Risks Group and specializing in identifying and quantifying cyber threats, geopolitical risks, and emerging technology issues. He later joined Marsh, where he was appointed U.S. Cyber Risk Consulting Leader before becoming head of the Emerging Risks Group. In this role, Sawyer advises Fortune 500 executives, industry leaders, boards, and government officials on cyber, geopolitical, and strategic risk issues, supporting organizations in building resilience amid interconnected risks.

Sawyer is a thought leader on global risk, contributing to Marsh's "Risk in Context" podcast and collaborating on the World Economic Forum's Global Risks Report, produced with Marsh McLennan. His writing has appeared in BRINK and NACD Directorship, and he has spoken on defense technology panels at venues such as the Russell Senate Office Building. Sawyer also serves as a senior advisor to the New York City Fire Department Terrorism Task Force, providing expertise on resiliency, preparedness, and cyber issues. As a keynote speaker, he addresses topics including cybersecurity, corporate strategy, geopolitics, security and defense, and strategic leadership.
