Reed Hastings

Reed Hastings is an entrepreneur and businessman recognized as the co-founder of Netflix, a streaming service that transformed global entertainment consumption. Hastings earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Bowdoin College and a master's degree in computer science with a focus on artificial intelligence from Stanford University. Between his degrees, he served in the Peace Corps as a high school math teacher in Swaziland, an experience that influenced his ongoing commitment to education reform. He later founded Pure Software, a company specializing in tools for software developers, which he took public and subsequently sold before focusing on his next venture.

Hastings and his wife made a major donation to support scholarships at historically Black colleges and universities, directing $120 million to Morehouse College, Spelman College, and the United Negro College Fund. He also contributed $50 million to Bowdoin College to establish the Hastings Initiative for AI and Humanity, a program exploring the impact of artificial intelligence on work, relationships, and education.

He also became the majority owner of Powder Mountain ski resort in Utah.
