Ray Bourque

Raymond J. “Ray” Bourque is one of the most iconic defensemen in the history of professional ice hockey, a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee, champion, philanthropist, and community leader whose impact extends far beyond the rink. Born on December 28, 1960, in Saint‑Laurent, Quebec, Bourque was drafted eighth overall by the Boston Bruins in 1979 and went on to become one of the greatest blue‑liners in NHL history, earning five Norris Trophies as the league’s best defenseman and captaining the Bruins for 12 seasons. After 21 remarkable years in Boston, Bourque joined the Colorado Avalanche and achieved his long‑awaited dream of winning the Stanley Cup in 2001 before retiring that same year. Both the Bruins and Avalanche retired his famed #77 jersey, and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2004 in his first year of eligibility, a testament to his transformative career.
