Rachel Cusk

Rachel Cusk is a Canadian-British novelist and writer known for her contributions to contemporary literature and literary fiction. Cusk studied English at New College, Oxford, and began her career with the novel "Saving Agnes," which received the Whitbread First Novel Award. Her third novel, "The Country Life," earned the Somerset Maugham Award, and she was named one of Granta's Best of Young British Novelists. "Arlington Park" was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction, and "In the Fold" was longlisted for the Booker Prize, establishing Cusk as a significant voice in modern fiction.

Cusk has also written nonfiction, including the memoir "A Life's Work: On Becoming a Mother," which examines motherhood, and "Aftermath," which explores the dissolution of her marriage. Both works are recognized for their candid approach to personal experience and their exploration of themes related to womanhood and identity.

Cusk is widely recognized for the Outline trilogy—"Outline," "Transit," and "Kudos"—which reimagines the structure of the novel through a series of conversations that reveal character and narrative indirectly. "Outline" was named one of The New York Times' top five novels of the year, while "Transit" and "Kudos" received nominations for the Scotiabank Giller Prize. The trilogy was also shortlisted for the Goldsmiths Prize and the Bailey's Prize, and is noted for its innovative approach to narrative form.

Cusk's later works include the novel "Second Place," which was longlisted for the Booker Prize and received the Prix Femina étranger, and the essay collection "Coventry," which highlights her skills as a cultural and personal essayist. Her novel "Parade" won the Goldsmiths Prize, and "Life of M" centers on a world-famous film star and the writer documenting her life. Cusk has been recognized as a Guggenheim Fellow, received the Malaparte Prize, and was named a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. She has served as a professor of creative writing at Kingston University and resides in Paris.
