Rachel Armstrong is professor of experimental architecture at the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, University of Newcastle, and a Senior TED Fellow. Armstrong is known for her work in sustainability and innovative building materials, specifically in the area of living architecture, which explores the potential for buildings to share properties with living systems. She collaborates across disciplines to develop prototypes that embody this approach to sustainable design and architecture.
Armstrong's work has been featured in PORTER magazine and she has been included in the Citizens of the Next Century List by Future-ish, the Wired Smart List, and the ICON 50. Director Magazine identified her as one of ten people in the United Kingdom who may influence the country's recovery. She has also been nominated as one of the most inspiring women by Chick Chip magazine and featured in BBC Focus Magazine’s issue on ideas that could change the world.
