Prateek Kuhad

Prateek Kuhad is an Indian singer-songwriter and musician recognized for his intimate songwriting in both Hindi and English. His music blends Americana and folk genres, featuring acoustic instrumentation and unconventional song structures. While studying mathematics and economics at New York University, Kuhad discovered the music of Elliott Smith, which influenced his artistic direction. He also drew inspiration from singer-songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Laura Marling, and Fleet Foxes, shaping a sound that has drawn comparisons to artists in folk and pop music.

After returning to India, Kuhad released his first EPs, followed by his debut album, "In Tokens & Charms." The album earned him an MTV Europe Music Award, Indie Album of the Year honors from iTunes, and the title of Best Pop Artist at the Radio City Freedom Awards. The opening track, "Oh Love," won first place in the International Songwriting Competition. His EP, "cold/mess," debuted at number one on Spotify India and featured tracks such as "Kasoor."

Kuhad's international recognition increased when "cold/mess" was included on former President Barack Obama's Favorite Songs playlist. He performed at SXSW and completed a headline tour in North America, including sold-out shows in New York City. His work has received coverage from NPR, Vulture, and Billboard, and his music has appeared in films and television shows including "Made in Heaven" and "Mismatched."

Kuhad became the first Indian artist signed by Elektra Records. He has performed at festivals and venues across India, the United States, Canada, Singapore, and Australia, supporting acts such as Alt-J and Mike Posner. His third studio album, "The Way That Lovers Do," further established his presence in contemporary indie folk and pop. Kuhad continues to release music and tour internationally, with performances on "The Silhouettes Tour." Rolling Stone India has described him as one of the country's leading singer-songwriters, with a global audience drawn to his cinematic songwriting and bilingual performances.
