Pooran Desai

Pooran Desai OBE is an environmentalist, entrepreneur, and thought leader in sustainability, recognized for his impact on sustainable development. He founded OnePlanet, an online platform that helps cities and companies coordinate sustainability efforts while driving progress toward a regenerative economy.

He was the co-founder of BioRegional, Desai has contributed to enterprises in sustainable forestry, organic farming, recycling, and green real estate, including leading the creation of the United Kingdom’s first large-scale, mixed-use zero carbon community, BedZED. His work has received honors such as the Officer of the Order of the British Empire and an Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Institute of British Architects, reflecting his role in advancing sustainable urban living.

Desai’s leadership includes the One Planet Living initiative, which he led for nearly two decades. Through this initiative, a set of sustainability principles was developed that influenced the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and guided strategies for communities, companies, and cities in more than 30 countries.
