Picabo Street

Picabo Street is recognized as one of the leading alpine ski racers in American history. Street earned two World Cup downhill titles and became a prominent figure in the sport, both in the United States and internationally. She became a national junior champion and joined the national squad at age 17, where she won a silver medal at the World Alpine Ski Championships before earning her first Olympic medal with silver in the downhill at the Olympic Winter Games Lillehammer.

Street's competitive achievements include six downhill victories in nine World Cup races during a pivotal season, making her the first non-European to win the downhill title. She repeated this accomplishment the following year. At the World Championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain, Street won gold in the downhill and bronze in the super-G. Her super-G victory at the Olympic Winter Games Nagano was decided by 0.01 seconds, the narrowest margin in Olympic alpine skiing history. With nine World Cup downhill race wins and induction into the National Ski Hall of Fame, Street has played a significant role in the development of American skiing.

Street's career was also marked by resilience following serious injuries. She tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee during a training run but recovered to compete in the Nagano Olympic Winter Games. After winning Olympic gold, Street suffered a crash in Switzerland, resulting in a broken left femur and a torn ligament in her right knee. She spent two years in rehabilitation before retiring at the Salt Lake City Olympics. Her repeated comebacks after injury have made her a notable figure in sports medicine and athlete recovery discussions.

Beyond her competitive career, Street co-authored the autobiography "Picabo: Nothing to Hide" with Dana White, detailing her journey from Idaho to Olympic champion. She is featured in the documentary "Picabo," co-directed by Lindsey Vonn and Frank Marshall, which explores her life, family, and influence on women's skiing. Street has served as a broadcast analyst for Fox Sports during the Sochi Winter Olympics and as a motivational speaker, addressing topics such as resilience, overcoming adversity, and goal-setting at corporate conferences, universities, and sports organizations.

Street co-founded the Picabo Street Academy in Park City, Utah, to mentor and educate student-athletes. The Academy is open to students pursuing high-level extracurricular activities in sports, music, dance, and the arts, while maintaining academic standards. As the founder of Picabo's Street of Dreams Foundation, Street works to help children achieve their goals. She has also contributed as a sports commentator for NBC, sharing her expertise in alpine skiing with new audiences.
