Philippe Aghion is a French economist renowned for his pioneering research on growth theory, innovation, and the economics of creative destruction. He serves as Professor at the Collège de France, the London School of Economics, and INSEAD, and is one of the world’s leading scholars in the field of economic growth and productivity.
Aghion’s work explores how innovation, competition, and institutions drive long-term economic development. He is co-author (with Peter Howitt) of Endogenous Growth Theory, a foundational text in modern economics, as well as The Power of Creative Destruction: Economic Upheaval and the Wealth of Nations. His research has profoundly shaped understanding of how technological progress and policy design influence growth and inequality.
He is a fellow of the Econometric Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a recipient of numerous honors, including the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Economics and the Yrjö Jahnsson Award. Aghion has also served as an adviser to the French government, the European Commission, and the OECD on innovation and industrial policy.
