Philip Andreae

Philip Andreae is an international executive and strategic thinker whose career spans technology, financial services, and digital security. Andreae began his career in capital markets, managing technology and infrastructure for institutions including Chemical Bank, Bankers Trust, Manufacturers Hanover Trust, Salomon Brothers, and Shearson Lehman Hutton in New York City and London. He managed the integration of voice, video, and digital technologies into trading rooms on Wall Street and in London, building expertise in complex financial ecosystems.

Andreae later transitioned to card payments and the development of technologies and security for digitizing card payments. At Europay International, he was responsible for leading the consortium that developed the EMV specification, a global standard embedded in billions of payment cards. At Visa Canada, Andreae played a key role in the country's migration to EMV, overseeing technology in more than 1 billion bank cards and millions of merchant terminals.

As founder and principal consultant of Philip Andreae & Associates, Andreae has led initiatives in the payments ecosystem, including defining global standards, executive education, and designing go-to-market strategies. At Oberthur Technologies, now IDEMIA, Andreae promoted secure payment cards, identity cards, and mobile payments. He has held active roles within the Smart Card Alliance, the EMV Migration Forum (now the US Payments Forum), and served as secretary of the FIDO Alliance, an industry body focused on authentication standards.

Andreae has focused on concepts such as identifier, identity, authentication, identification, and verification, with an emphasis on privacy and identity control in a connected world. His work developing blockchain standards for remote voting via mobile phones has contributed to innovation in election systems. As a senior advisor at Voatz, Andreae has driven the development of standards and alliances to enable smartphone-based voting.

Andreae is a keynote speaker and industry expert on topics including electronic payments, digital identity, the history of the Internet, the Internet of Things, and privacy.
