Peter Weill

Peter Weill is a computer scientist and organizational theorist known for his expertise in digital technology and enterprise strategy. Weill serves as a professor of information systems research at MIT Sloan School of Management and as chairman of the MIT Center for Information Systems Research. Prior to joining MIT, Weill was professor and foundation chair of management in information systems and a member of the board of directors at Melbourne Business School at the University of Melbourne. He holds a BE in industrial engineering with honors and an MBA with distinction from the University of Melbourne, as well as an MPhil and PhD from the Stern School of Business at New York University.

Weill's research focuses on the intersection of digital transformation, information systems, and business value. At MIT CISR, he leads practical research on how organizations generate business value from information technology, working directly with digital leaders, executives, and boards. Weill also serves as a senior advisor to Insight Partners, a venture capital firm investing in software companies.

Weill is the author of 10 business books, more than 100 MIT CISR research briefings, and numerous articles and podcasts featured in Harvard Business Review, CNBC, Directors & Boards, Forbes, MIT Sloan Management Review, The European Business Review, and The Wall Street Journal. Weill has delivered thousands of keynotes, presentations, and workshops to boards and executive committees, including co-designing and presenting at the Microsoft CEO Summit for 12 years. He has also conducted workshops for CEO Summits for IBM and SAP, and the International Monetary Conference. Weill has worked on digitization issues with executive committees and boards of more than 50 companies globally.

Weill received the MIT Sloan Outstanding Teacher Award and was recognized by Ziff Davis as one of the "Top 100 Most Influential People in IT," the highest-ranked academic in the field. He has received multiple awards, including Thinkers50 recognition for distinguished achievement. MIT CISR introduced a business model framework for the AI era, with research exploring how business models evolve as organizations navigate digital transformation.
