Peter Kostis

Peter Kostis is a prominent figure in the golf industry, known for his extensive career in golf instruction and national television broadcasting. Kostis advanced to a leading teaching position early in his career, joining Bob Toski as head instructor for Golf Digest's schools alongside Jim Flick. He has served on Golf Digest's Professional Panel for more than 20 years and was head instructor of the magazine's instructional schools for nearly a decade. With a background in chemical engineering, Kostis applies analytical precision to golf instruction.

Kostis has taught and played golf in more than 28 countries and has instructed over 125 PGA, LPGA, and Senior PGA Tour professionals, including Jack Nicklaus, Tom Kite, Mark Calcavecchia, Davis Love III, Bernhard Langer, and Jumbo Ozaki. He has also coached celebrities such as Kevin Costner, Maury Povich, Dan Marino, Jim Rice, and Mike Schmidt. Kostis worked as the instructor for Kevin Costner in the film "Tin Cup," in which he also appeared as himself. He operates the Peter Kostis Learning Academy at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Kostis began his broadcasting career during the Ryder Cup at The Greenbrier in West Virginia, initially attending as a swing coach before being invited by USA Network to serve as an on-course reporter. He later joined CBS Sports as an on-course reporter and golf analyst and was the lead golf analyst for USA Network for more than a decade. Kostis covered 29 consecutive Masters, 27 PGA Championships, and every Ryder Cup during his tenure, contributing to hundreds of golf event broadcasts for CBS Sports.

Kostis received an Emmy Award for his work with Konica-Minolta BizHub SwingVision. He has been consistently recognized in the Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher and Golf Digest Top 50 Teacher lists. He has appeared on the cover of Golf Digest Magazine multiple times and was inducted into Golf Digest's Legends of Golf Instruction, acknowledging his influence in golf coaching and instruction.

After a colon cancer diagnosis, Kostis took a season off before returning to CBS Sports cancer-free. He has since advocated for early detection and preventive health screenings. Following his retirement from CBS, Kostis has provided commentary on industry challenges through podcasts and interviews, supporting the inclusion of coaches in commentary roles and proposing reforms to enhance engagement and transparency in golf broadcasting.
