Peter Farrelly

Peter Farrelly is a film director, screenwriter, producer, and novelist whose career spans multiple decades in the entertainment industry. Farrelly studied writing at Columbia University in New York City before turning his attention to screenwriting and directing, a transition prompted by the sale but non-production of several of his scripts. He is also a published novelist, with works including "Outside Providence" and "The Comedy Writer."

Farrelly is recognized for his contributions to the comedy genre, often collaborating with his younger brother Bobby Farrelly. Together, they began their careers writing for television, earning their first credit on the NBC comedy special "Our Planet Tonight" and later scripting episodes of Seinfeld. The Farrelly brothers wrote, directed, and produced several influential comedy films, including "There's Something About Mary," "Dumb and Dumber," "Kingpin," "Shallow Hal," "Me, Myself & Irene," "Stuck on You," and "Fever Pitch." Two of their scripts, "There's Something About Mary" and "Dumb and Dumber," are listed on the Writers Guild of America's Top 100 Funniest Screenplays of All Time.

Farrelly expanded his filmmaking repertoire by directing "Green Book," a biographical comedy-drama inspired by the true story of a tour through the Deep South by Black pianist Don Shirley and his Italian-American driver Frank Vallelonga. The film received critical acclaim, winning Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards, as well as honors from the Golden Globes, Producers Guild Awards, and National Board of Review. "Green Book" achieved commercial success, grossing over $321 million worldwide and highlighting Farrelly's ability to create films with both broad audience appeal and emotional depth.

Farrelly has continued to work as a solo filmmaker, directing the biographical war comedy-drama "The Greatest Beer Run Ever" and co-writing and directing "Ricky Stanicky," a comedy released on Amazon Prime Video. His body of work demonstrates versatility across genres, from Oscar-winning drama to popular comedy, establishing Farrelly as a prominent figure in film direction, screenwriting, and production.
