Peter Chernin

Peter Chernin is a media executive and producer with a career spanning publishing, television, film, and digital media. Chernin began his career in publishing as a publicist at St. Martin's Press and an editor at Warner Books. He transitioned to television as an executive at the David Gerber Company, overseeing the production of more than 100 hours of network television, and later joined Showtime/The Movie Channel, where he supervised the development of original series programming, including "Brothers," "It's Garry Shandling's Show," and the second television adaptation of The Paper Chase. Chernin joined Fox after serving as president and chief operating officer at Lorimar Film Entertainment.

Before founding The Chernin Group, Chernin was president and chief operating officer of News Corporation and chairman and CEO of the Fox Group. In these roles, he managed global operations in film and television production and distribution, broadcast and cable networks, and digital media. Under his leadership, Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation produced "Titanic" and "Avatar," two of the highest-grossing movies in box office history. The Fox Broadcasting Company became the top-ranked network among adults 18 to 49, and Twentieth Century Fox Television became the leading supplier of programming to television networks. During his tenure, News Corporation's cable network group expanded to more than 400 million cable subscribers. Notable television series produced during this period include "24," "Modern Family," "Glee," "The Simpsons," and "American Idol."

After leaving News Corporation, Chernin founded Chernin Entertainment, producing feature films such as "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," and "War for the Planet of the Apes," as well as "Ford v Ferrari," "Hidden Figures," and "The Greatest Showman." The company also produced the television comedy "New Girl."

Chernin later established The North Road Company, an independent production company that includes Chernin Entertainment. The North Road Company has received significant investment to support media and technology ventures and strategic acquisitions. In addition to his production work, Chernin serves on the board of American Express and as co-chairman of the University of California, Berkeley Board of Visitors. He is also co-founder and co-chairman of Malaria No More, a nonprofit focused on malaria eradication. Chernin's career reflects extensive experience in media, entertainment, and content production.
