Penei Sewell Biography
Penei Sewell is a notable American Samoan professional football offensive tackle who plays for the Detroit Lions in the NFL. Sewell's journey in the sport started in college where he played for Oregon and achieved significant recognition. In 2019, he was awarded the Outland Trophy, the Morris Trophy, and was named the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year. His talent was further acknowledged when he was selected as the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions.
Throughout his career, Sewell has consistently demonstrated high performance and has been repeatedly honored for his contributions to the sport. In his rookie year, he was part of the PFWA All-Rookie Team, and in the years that followed, he was selected for the Pro Bowl four times from 2022 to 2025 and named a First-team All-Pro three times from 2023 to 2025. Further testament to his skills and impact in the sport, Sewell was named the Polynesian Professional Football Player of the Year in 2024.
In recognition of his tremendous value to the team, the Detroit Lions offered Sewell a four-year contract extension in April 2024, securing his presence on the team through the 2029 season.
