
Peggy Noonan is a political writer and journalist whose career includes work at the highest levels of government and media. Before joining the Reagan White House, Noonan was a producer at CBS News in New York, where she wrote and produced Dan Rather's daily radio commentary. She later served as a primary speechwriter and special assistant to President Ronald Reagan, contributing to speeches such as Reagan's "Boys of Pointe du Hoc" address for the 40th anniversary of D-Day and his address to the nation following the Challenger explosion, which has been recognized among the top American speeches of the 20th century.
Noonan became chief speechwriter for George H.W. Bush during his presidential campaign, coining phrases including "a kinder, gentler nation," "a thousand points of light," and "read my lips: no new taxes." She has received the Golden Plate Award of the American Academy of Achievement and has worked as a consultant on the television drama "The West Wing." Noonan has been nominated for Emmy Awards for her work on a post-9/11 television special and for contributions to the series.
Noonan is a columnist for Wall Street Journal, where her weekly column, "Declarations," has run for many years. Her commentary has been recognized with the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary for her coverage of a presidential campaign, particularly her analysis of the populist movement and its impact on the Republican Party and American politics.
In addition to her journalism and speechwriting, Noonan has authored nine books, five of which have appeared on the New York Times bestseller list. Her works include "What I Saw at the Revolution," "When Character Was King," "John Paul the Great," "Simply Speaking," and "A Certain Idea of America." She is a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society's Tex McCrary Journalism Award for excellence in media.
Noonan is a contributor to CBS News, appearing on "Face the Nation," and makes regular appearances on NBC's "Meet the Press" and ABC's "This Week."
