Paul Cauthen

Paul Cauthen is a singer-songwriter known for his work across several genres, including country rock, neotraditional country, alternative country, outlaw country, and Americana. He first came to prominence as one half of the Americana/indie folk rock duo Sons of Fathers, but his career took a decisive turn towards solo work. As a solo artist, Cauthen has released three albums and an EP, with his most recent work, "Country Coming Down", coming out in April 2022. A fourth album, "Black on Black", was released on October 25, 2024. Cauthen, who performs under the name Paul Cauthen's Big Velvet Revue, made his Grand Ole Opry debut as a solo artist on June 22, 2018.

Cauthen's first solo album, "My Gospel", was released in 2016 and was listed as number 23 in Rolling Stone magazine's top 40 country records of that year. His song "Everybody Walking This Land" from his EP "Have Mercy" was featured in the TV show "American Gods" on Starz network. In 2019, he released his second solo record "Room 41". The music video for "Cocaine Country Dancing" from "Room 41" was nominated for Best Music Video by the Dallas Observer's Music Awards in 2019. Besides his solo work, Cauthen has also shown a propensity for collaboration. In 2020, he teamed up with Orville Peck to release cover songs "Unchained Melody" and "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" as the Unrighteous Brothers for Record Store Day. He has also collaborated with artists like Cody Jinks, recorded covers like "Black Hole Sun" and "Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)", and worked closely with the Texas Gentlemen, a band that often appears in his records.
