Patrick Ewing

Patrick Ewing is recognized as one of the most dominant players in basketball history. Before his professional career, Ewing played at Georgetown University, where he led the Hoyas to three NCAA Championship Game appearances and a national title under coach John Thompson. During his four years at Georgetown, he was a three-time consensus First Team All-American, named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Championships, and earned the Naismith College Player of the Year award. Ewing's impact at Georgetown contributed to the university's reputation for producing elite centers, including Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo.

Selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, Ewing became one of the league's premier centers. Despite injuries in his first season, he was voted NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. Over a 17-year career, Ewing was selected to 11 NBA All-Star Games, named to seven All-NBA teams, and led the Knicks to 13 playoff appearances and two NBA Finals appearances. He retired as the Knicks' all-time leader in points, rebounds, blocks, and steals, finishing his career with 24,815 total points and averages of 21.0 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. The Knicks retired his jersey number 33 at Madison Square Garden.

Ewing's achievements include winning Olympic gold medals as a member of both the U.S. Olympic team and the 1992 Dream Team, which the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame called the greatest collection of basketball talent on the planet. He was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History and later one of the 75 Greatest Players in NBA History. Ewing is a two-time inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame—first for his individual career and again as a member of the 1992 Olympic team—and was also inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame. He appeared in the film "Space Jam," reflecting his influence on basketball culture.

After retiring as a player, Ewing transitioned into coaching, serving as an NBA assistant with the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic, and Charlotte Hornets. He later returned to Georgetown as head coach of the Hoyas, leading the team to a Big East Tournament championship and an NCAA Tournament berth. Ewing subsequently rejoined the New York Knicks organization as basketball ambassador, contributing to both basketball and business operations. He later became an NBA Champion with the Knicks in a front office role, marking a significant milestone in his basketball career.
