Patricia R. Sheikh

Patricia R. Sheikh is an international agricultural trade and development expert whose career spans more than three decades of shaping U.S. global agricultural policy. As managing partner of Innovative Agricultural Solutions, she provides strategic solutions for clients interested in agricultural production, trade policy, promotion, investment opportunities, and business advisory services.

Sheikh brings over 35 years of expertise in global trade and development, having worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service in several senior-level positions, including managing global trade relations at bilateral, regional, and global levels.

During her tenure at the USDA, Sheikh served as deputy administrator of the Office of Capacity Building and Development at the Foreign Agricultural Service, where she led USDA's global trade and development programs, overseeing food assistance, trade capacity building, and agricultural development initiatives. She developed the first Africa trade and development strategy at the Foreign Agricultural Service and contributed to advancing agricultural trade and policy under the African Growth and Opportunity Act. Sheikh also served as deputy administrator of international trade policy, world cotton coordinator, and trade analyst at the Office of Foreign Economic Policy. Additionally, she served as acting deputy under secretary for USDA's Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services.

In the private and nonprofit sectors, Sheikh served as director of agribusiness, trade and health for the Corporate Council on Africa, promoting trade and investment between the United States and African nations. She later joined Roots of Peace as senior vice president of programs, an organization focused on transforming war-torn agricultural lands into productive farmland. Sheikh has also been appointed to the board of directors of Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture. As a board member of the National Industrial Hemp Council of America, she joined the Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade in Tobacco, Cotton, Peanuts and Hemp, expanding her influence across emerging agricultural sectors.

Sheikh has received recognition for her work, including the Presidential Meritorious Executive Award and the Presidential Rank Award. She has served as an advisory board member for the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at Tuskegee University, The German Marshall Fund, and Leadership Africa. Sheikh also serves on the advisory council of the Millennium Challenge Corporation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science with a minor in economics from Notre Dame of Maryland University and a Master of Arts in international relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C. Her policy expertise and global network position her as an authoritative voice on agricultural trade, food security, and international development.
