Pat Monahan

Pat Monahan is an American singer-songwriter and musician recognized as the lead vocalist and sole constant member of the Grammy Award-winning rock band Train. Monahan began his career performing in a Led Zeppelin cover band before co-founding Train in San Francisco. After relocating from Erie to California, he met Rob Hotchkiss, and together they expanded their lineup with Jimmy Stafford, Charlie Colin, and Scott Underwood, officially forming Train. The group built a dedicated following in San Francisco, which led to their debut album released by Columbia.

Train achieved mainstream success with the album "Drops of Jupiter." The single "Meet Virginia" became their first radio hit, while "Drops of Jupiter" propelled the band to multi-platinum status. The title track, written by Monahan and inspired by his late mother, earned two Grammy Awards and spent 10 months in the Top 40, achieving 6x platinum certification in the United States. The band's momentum continued with the album "Save Me, San Francisco," which produced the hit "Hey Soul Sister." This song became a global success, earning another Grammy Award and becoming the top-selling and most downloaded single of its year. Train has sold more than 10 million albums and over 30 million tracks worldwide, with multiple platinum and gold certifications, three Grammy Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, and more than 13 songs on the Billboard Hot 100.

Beyond his work with Train, Monahan has collaborated with various artists and released a solo album, "Last of Seven," featuring guest appearances by Brandi Carlile, Graham Nash, and Richie Sambora. He co-wrote "Babe" with Taylor Swift, which appeared on Sugarland's top 10 Hot Country Songs hit and later on Swift's Billboard 200-topping album "Red (Taylor's Version)." Monahan performed with the Hollies at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony and co-wrote songs with Guy Chambers for Tina Turner's album Tina! Her Greatest Hits.

Monahan's career extends beyond recording and touring. He has performed the U.S. National Anthem at major events, including the NBA Finals, NHL Stanley Cup Finals, and the Daytona 500. He has appeared on "The Voice," "American Idol," "The Bachelor," and television series such as CBS's "Hawaii Five-0" and "Magnum P.I." Monahan starred in "Christmas In Tahoe," a Hallmark Channel film based on Train's album, and served as executive producer for the movie. He also made his Broadway debut during the initial run of Rocktopia. Outside of music, Monahan launched Save Me, San Francisco Wine Co., an award-winning wine portfolio that has sold over 10 million bottles and received more than 100 medals.

Monahan has spoken publicly about personal challenges, including his long-term sobriety, which has played a significant role in his life and career. Train released "AM Gold," the band's 11th studio album, through Columbia Records, maintaining their presence as a touring and recording act. With a career spanning more than three decades, Monahan remains a prominent figure in rock music, known for his distinctive voice, songwriting, and dedication to live performance.
