Ovie Mughelli

Ovie Mughelli is a two-time All-Pro NFL veteran whose career on the gridiron provided the foundation for his work as an environmental advocate, healthcare consultant, and public speaker. At Wake Forest University, Mughelli was a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection at fullback and was rated the No. 1 fullback by USA Today heading into the draft. He was selected with the 134th overall pick in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. During his nine seasons in the National Football League, Mughelli played for the Atlanta Falcons and the Baltimore Ravens, earning two second-team All-Pro selections and a Pro Bowl invitation. He established himself as one of the league's premier fullbacks, known for his power and versatility in both rushing and receiving roles. Mughelli signed a six-year, $18 million contract with a $5 million signing bonus, which was the largest given to a fullback in NFL history at the time.

Following his retirement from professional football, Mughelli focused on environmental advocacy and healthcare. Becoming a father and facing family health challenges led him to recognize the connection between human health and environmental well-being. He founded The Ovie Mughelli Foundation to educate and empower the next generation of green leaders, working to diversify the green industry and promote equal access to the benefits of green spaces. Through the foundation, Mughelli has raised awareness of environmental issues such as sustainability and climate change.

Mughelli's environmental work has included meetings with Nobel Peace Prize Winner and former Vice President Al Gore to discuss greening initiatives, and he has served as a closing speaker at the White House for the Environmental Sustainability Through Sports assembly. He has developed partnerships with agencies including the EPA, Sierra Club, and Green Sports Alliance. Mughelli is ranked among the world's top eco-athletes and has received recognition from Planet Green, the Captain Planet Foundation Hero for the Earth Award, and The Long Leaf Award. He has delivered keynote talks for the U.S. Department of State, the White House Sports & Sustainability Conference, and Earth Day on the Mall.

In addition to his environmental advocacy, Mughelli transitioned into healthcare consulting, leveraging his MBA from George Washington University and personal experiences to focus on the intersection of human wellness and environmental factors. As president of business development for the Georgia and South Carolina markets at Wellvana Health, a value-based care enablement company, he advises on integrating technology into patient health management and promotes preventive strategies for athletes and communities. Mughelli has also worked as a host for WZGC 92.9 the Game sports station in Atlanta and the all-digital sports network 120 Sports, and has served as a live event host for the ESPYs and the Trumpet Awards. Mughelli was inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame, recognizing his continued commitment to the health of people and the planet.
