Oscar Goodman

Oscar Goodman is recognized for his extensive career as a criminal defense attorney and as a three-term mayor of Las Vegas. Goodman spent 35 years representing alleged organized crime figures, including Meyer Lansky, Frank Rosenthal, and Anthony Spilotro, and tried an estimated 300 criminal cases. His legal expertise and courtroom strategies established him as a prominent figure in criminal law and organized crime defense.

After earning a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Goodman was admitted to the Nevada Bar Association and served as chief deputy public defender in Clark County, Nevada. His legal career brought him into the public eye, and his association with high-profile cases extended into popular culture. Anthony Spilotro was portrayed by Joe Pesci in the film "Casino," in which Goodman made a cameo appearance as himself. Goodman also appeared as himself on the CBS series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and the NBC series "Las Vegas."

Goodman transitioned to public office by running for mayor of Las Vegas. Despite having no prior political experience, he was elected and subsequently reelected with significant majorities. As mayor, Goodman focused on revitalizing downtown Las Vegas and played a key role in the development of The Mob Museum, where he serves as director emeritus and board member.

Following his tenure as mayor, Goodman became the official spokesperson and ambassador for Las Vegas and chairs the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Host Committee. He is also the namesake of the restaurant Oscar's Beef, Booze & Broads. Goodman authored the memoir "Being Oscar: From Mob Lawyer to Mayor of Las Vegas," co-written with George Anastasia, and has been featured in television programs such as "The Making of the Mob: New York" and "The Making of the Mob: Chicago." Goodman’s career encompasses criminal law, city governance, and media, making him a notable figure in the legal and civic landscape of Las Vegas.
