Olga Kagan

Olga Kagan, PhD, RN, FHIMSS, FAAAAI, FIEL, is a nurse scientist, educator, and entrepreneur with more than two decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience. Kagan specializes in nursing informatics, healthcare artificial intelligence, administration, education, health policy, and research. A registered nurse licensed in New York, she began her career in critical care in the United States and abroad before serving as a clinical nurse coordinator at the WTC Worker & Volunteer Medical Screening & Monitoring Program at Mt. Sinai Selikoff Centers for Occupational Health, where she contributed to the program's development from its inception. Kagan earned a master's degree in nursing administration and informatics, and a PhD in nursing from the Barbara Hagan School of Nursing at Molloy University.

Kagan's work focuses on the intersection of nursing informatics, healthcare AI, and allergy and anaphylaxis care. As a Fellow of the Health Information Management System Society, she led the creation of the "5 Rights of AI for Healthcare" and played a key role in expanding the AI & Innovation Toolkit through her involvement with the Innovation Advisory Workgroup and the Nursing Informatics Committee. She co-chairs the mHealth & Innovation HITE sub-committee at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, where she advances the integration of technology into allergy and immunology care. Kagan is also an active member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, serving on committees focused on adverse reactions to foods, diversity, equity and inclusion, occupational diseases, health informatics, technology and innovation, and anaphylaxis and adverse effects.

Kagan is the founder and president of the Food Allergy Nursing Association, formerly FANI, where she applies innovative technologies to develop an allergy-informed nursing workforce, support new care models, and promote nurse-led research. She also co-founded the Collaborative Healthcare Innovation, Research & Problem Solving Nursing Group, which originated from Society of Nurse Scientists Innovators Entrepreneurs & Leaders-initiated nurse-led hackathons. Kagan has worked with elected officials on legislative initiatives in Washington, D.C., and Nassau County to improve the welfare of vulnerable populations.

Kagan is co-editor and contributing author of "The Informatics Guide to Healthcare: From Insight to Action" and has contributed chapters to nursing and healthcare texts published by Wolters Kluwer, Lippincott, Springer, Jones & Bartlett, and McGraw Hill. In addition to her work in informatics and innovation, she educates nurses at two New York-based universities and mentors nurses through the American Nurses Association mentorship program. Kagan has published peer-reviewed articles, contributed to textbooks, and served as a peer reviewer for professional journals including JACI: Global, CIN, and Nursing Management.

Kagan holds national leadership roles in the nursing and health informatics community, including president-elect of the Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs and Leaders and chair of the New York Academy of Medicine Nursing Section. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, the Health Information Management System Society, the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, and the New York Academy of Medicine. Kagan has been featured on HIMSS TV, several podcasts, and in print, providing expertise on nursing, healthcare technology, and patient-centered innovation.
