Niels Pflaeging

Niels Pflaeging is a leadership thinker, management innovator, and organizational transformation expert known for challenging conventional management practices and redefining how organizations operate in complex environments. Pflaeging is recognized for his expertise in organizational leadership, decentralization, self-organization, and workplace democracy. An economist and international keynote speaker, he is known for delivering unscripted talks throughout his career.

Before founding the BetaCodex Network, Pflaeging served as a director with the Beyond Budgeting Round Table. The BetaCodex Network, based on 12 core principles, introduced concepts such as Change-as-Flipping, Org Physics, OpenSpace Beta, Cell Structure Design, and Relative Targets. The BetaCodex approach emphasizes decentralized, self-organized, and adaptive organizations, representing a shift from traditional command-and-control structures. Pflaeging has presented and discussed the BetaCodex mindset in more than 45 countries, focusing on organizational transformation and change management.

Pflaeging is the author of 12 business books. His book "Leading with Flexible Targets, Beyond Budgeting in Practice" received the Financial Times Germany Best Business Book Award. Other works include "Organize for Complexity," "Complexitools" (co-authored with Silke Hermann), "OpenSpace Beta," and "Essays on Beta, Vol. 1."

Pflaeging co-founded Red42 with Silke Hermann, a start-up focused on workplace learning and organizational development. The social technology LearningCircles by Red42 evolved into the EdTech business qomenius, based in Wiesbaden. With nearly 20 years of consulting experience, Pflaeging also teaches part-time at academic institutions. He delivers presentations in English, German, Spanish, and Portuguese, providing insights on organizational leadership, business innovation, and the future of work to global audiences.
