Nico Carney

Nico Carney is a Brooklyn-based stand-up comedian, writer, and actor recognized for his confessional comedy centered on his experiences as a transgender man. Carney incorporates vulnerability and wit into his performances, drawing from personal experiences to create material that resonates with a broad audience. Beginning his comedy career as a sketch comic in college, Carney used joke writing to process the complexities of transitioning, channeling these experiences into his stand-up routines.

Carney started performing stand-up comedy before relocating to New York City, where his career progressed rapidly. He was selected for the inaugural Netflix "Introducing..." showcase at the Netflix Is a Joke Festival and was named a Just for Laughs New Face in the stand-up category. Carney made his late-night stand-up debut on "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and was included in Vulture's list of "The Comedians You Should and Will Know." Deadline also recognized him as one of "The Future of Funny: 15 Comedians Ready to Break Out."

Carney has supported Jonathan Van Ness on tour and headlined shows at the New York Comedy Festival and Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin, Texas. He tours his first stand-up hour, which headlined at the New York Comedy Festival and Netflix Is a Joke Festival. Carney was a featured comedian in the CBS Showcase, a stand-up event marking the initiative's anniversary. He is a regular at New York's Comedy Cellar and has appeared on Comedy Central's "The Gag."

Carney co-hosts the podcast and monthly live show "Boys' Club" with comedian Conor Janda at Club Cumming in the East Village. The show headlined at the New York Comedy Festival. Carney and Janda are developing a half-hour comedy pilot titled "Boys" with Scott King supervising for Imagine Entertainment.

In film, Carney made his feature debut in "She's the He," an independent comedy directed by Siobhan McCarthy, playing the role of Alex. The film premiered at the SXSW Film Festival. Variety praised Carney's performance, noting his comedic presence. Carney was also cast in the independent feature film from Gloria Sanchez Productions, "Here for the Weekend," starring opposite Patti Harrison as the romantic lead. Carney's work spans stand-up, television, and film, contributing to conversations around transgender representation and LGBTQ+ comedy in the entertainment industry.
