Nick Hexum

Nick Hexum is a musician, singer, songwriter, and producer best known as the lead vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter of the alternative rock band 311. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Hexum co-founded 311 in Omaha, Nebraska, in the late 1980s, helping shape the band’s distinctive fusion of rock, reggae, hip-hop, funk, and punk.

With Hexum at the helm, 311 became one of the most enduring alternative-rock acts of the 1990s and beyond. The band broke into the mainstream with albums including Music (1993), Grassroots (1994), and the self-titled 311 (1995), which produced such enduring songs as “Down” and “All Mixed Up.” Over the course of its career, 311 has sold more than 10 million records in the United States and released 14 studio albums, most recently Full Bloom in 2024.

Hexum is known for his melodic vocals, rhythmic guitar playing, and songwriting centered on themes of connection, positivity, individuality, and community. He has remained an active creative force in 311 throughout the band's more than three-decade career; in 2026, the group continues to tour and perform for a devoted international fan base.

Beyond his work with 311, Hexum tours as a solo artist and has pursued collaborations and other creative projects while maintaining a strong interest in fitness, wellness, and personal growth.
