Neil Shearing

Neil Shearing is a prominent British economist and the Group Chief Economist at Capital Economics, one of the world’s leading independent macroeconomic research firms. In this role, he oversees a global team of economists across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, directing research and offering strategic insight into global economic trends and financial markets.

With over two decades of experience, Shearing has worked in both public and private sectors. Before becoming Group Chief Economist, he served as Capital Economics’ Chief Emerging Markets Economist, leading a team known for its accurate forecasting and managing the firm’s New York office. Earlier in his career, he worked as an Economic Adviser at HM Treasury, focusing on fiscal policy and global economic developments.

Shearing is a widely respected voice in the investment community, known for delivering compelling presentations and contributing expert commentary across global media platforms. His insights are frequently featured in leading financial publications, and he is a regular guest on television and radio programs discussing macroeconomic trends.

He holds degrees in economics from the University of York and the University of London. He is also an Associate Fellow at Chatham House, where he contributes to research on international finance and the changing dynamics of the global economy.
