Nate Ruess

Nate Ruess is an American singer-songwriter recognized for his contributions to indie pop and alternative music. Ruess began his career with the band The Format, which he co-founded with Sam Means. The group released two records, including "Dog Problems," which received critical attention in the music press. After The Format disbanded, Ruess formed the band fun. with Jack Antonoff and Andrew Dost.

As the lead vocalist of fun., Ruess earned two Grammy Awards for the album "Some Nights," including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for the single "We Are Young." The song, featuring Janelle Monáe, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved platinum status in multiple countries. "Some Nights" and "Carry On" also received international certifications, and the album debuted in the top three of the Billboard 200, selling millions of copies worldwide. Ruess's songwriting for fun. often explored themes of loneliness and self-worth, paired with anthemic pop hooks.

In addition to his work with fun., Ruess has established himself as a collaborator and solo artist in the pop and rock music industries. He contributed vocals to P!nk's single "Just Give Me a Reason," which received Grammy nominations and won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Collaboration. Ruess has co-written commercially successful singles such as "Die Young" by Kesha, "Stay the Night" by Zedd and Hayley Williams, and "Walk Me Home" by Pink. He also performed on Brian Wilson's album "No Pier Pressure."

Ruess released his debut solo album, "Grand Romantic," which reached the top 10 of the Billboard 200 and included singles like "Nothing Without Love" and "AhHa." His songwriting has been recognized with the Hal David Starlight Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Ruess has also contributed as a composer and lyricist for artists including Keith Urban, notably on the track "Way Too Long." Throughout his career, Ruess has remained active as a songwriter and producer, with his work continuing to influence the pop and indie music landscapes.
