Mustard

Dijon Isaiah McFarlane, better known as Mustard (formerly DJ Mustard), is a Los Angeles–born record producer, DJ, and songwriter whose distinctive “ratchet music” sound reshaped hip-hop and R&B in the 2010s. Inspired by early studio sessions at age 11 and influenced by West Coast legends like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, he developed a signature style—minimalist, upbeat, club-ready beats marked by crisp hand‑claps, 808s, synth bass, and his iconic producer tag “Mustard on the beat, ho!”

Mustard shot to prominence producing Tyga’s 2011 hit “Rack City” and went on to craft chart-topping anthems like 2 Chainz’s “I’m Different,” YG’s “My Nigga,” Jeremih’s “Don’t Tell ’Em,” Big Sean’s “I Don’t Fk with You,” and Rihanna’s “Needed Me." In 2014, he released his debut album 10 Summers, followed by Cold Summer (2016) and Perfect Ten (2019), which went platinum and featured hits like “Pure Water” with Migos and “Ballin’” with Roddy Ricch—the latter earning a Grammy nomination and peaking at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Beyond his solo work, Mustard founded 10 Summers Records in 2014, nurturing artists such as Ella Mai, Kiana Ledé, and RJMrLA. His production prowess continued into 2024 with his soundtrack to Kendrick Lamar’s chart-topping single “Not Like Us,” earning him his first production credit on a No. 1 hit and multiple Grammy nominations—including Producer of the Year—while also releasing his fourth studio album, Faith of a Mustard Seed, showcasing both his musical versatility and spiritual growth.
